Party Talk ~

I told them one of the nuns in the 5th grade had a thick, wide paddle she would whack us with, and a thin ruler to swat our knuckles with. "Holy smokes!" someone said.

In public school, we did not have nuns, but the teachers still had "tools" of discipline. When I was in 5th grade at Institute Hill, Miss Holland's over-the-glasses glare was enough to turn your blood to ice water, and even the most squiggly kids behaved. :)

It was easy to forget that nuns--the so-called "brides of Christ"--were also human beings and thus susceptible to those failings, including near criminal behavior, which, back then, we were conditioned to ignore.

Charles, my sympathies regarding the recent slaughter at the school; wonder if nuns were in charge there?

Nuns are not my favorite topic...I felt that sting more than once in my day. Not nice.
