You must have an alone life for your soul to contemplate and bring it back to the community. You must have a communal life that brings joy to your alone life.
One's life will likely have periods where one or the other dominates and it is in those times that you get refreshed from the less dominant but important side.

You need the church. It is a great help to know others are doing the same thing you are.
Go ahead and try it on your own, but it is going to be much harder. I would rather achieve the same goal with the help of others.
